Atari 5200 Collectibles

edit | history

Released toward the end of 1982, the Atari 5200 underwhelmed consumers and was discontinued less than two years later in May of 1984.

The system had new and improved graphics and new controllers that offered better 8-way joysticks (compared to the 4-direction ones on the 2600) and graphics that were superior to the 2600 and the rival Intellivision. However, there was a lack of funding that caused to system to have a small library of games and the lack of backward compatibility meant that there was little reason to buy this system.
