Japanese import. This edition of the 3DS was only released in Japan as a limited promotion at Pokemon Centers (That's, surprisingly, a real thing) but it turns out that unlike the DS, DS Lite, DSi and DSiXL, the 3DS is region locked so any Japanese 3DS will never play American games and does not have an English language setting.
This Game Boy was modified to have a prosound on-board stereo sound chip with external sound port as well as a backlit screen. These are usually used by people to create Chiptunes (a form of music that combines '8-bit' sounds with rave/techno beats and rythyms.)
The system was a gift from a friend who found it in an attic. However, it was stored with batteries still inside and they exploded and corroded inside the controller so now a new one needs to be purchased before I can use the system.
